UX Design - Case Study

Defination

Project Overview

The Product:

Defination is an innovative movie trailer app, designed to users discover and engage with trailers. The app aims to provide a seamless and user-friendly experience, making it effortless to find the latest and most captivating movie trailers.

The Problem:

- Limited Trailer Selection

If the app offers a limited collection of movie trailers, users may feel restricted in their choices and struggle to find trailers for a diverse range of movies.

- Poor Navigation and User Interface

A poorly designed navigation system or a cluttered user interface can make it challenging for users to find the trailers they are interested in.

- Limited Accessibility Options:

Users with visual or hearing impairments may face difficulties if the app lacks accessibility features such as closed captions, audio descriptions, or text-to-speech capabilities.

- Insufficient Social Features: The absence of social features within the app, such as the ability to share trailers with friends, post comments or reviews, or participate in discussions, can diminish the sense of community and interaction among users.

The goals:

- Insert Convenience and Accessibility:
Users expect the app to be convenient and easily accessible across various devices.

- Seamless Integration with Ticketing and Streaming Platforms:
Users value the convenience of seamlessly transitioning from watching a trailer to booking tickets or accessing the full movie on streaming platforms.

- Engaging with Movie Content:
Users seek an engaging and immersive experience where they can delve deeper into movie content beyond just trailers.

Project Duration:

Understanding the User

I conducted interviews and a research created  empathy maps, storyboards to better understand the users needs. The primary user group were adults with a busy scheduled. The research helped to understand the lack of key information that could help users to better optimizing their time  by learning more about the movie and it’s previous feedback

Pain Points

1. Lack of personalization and recommendation features:

Users may wish to have a personalized experience with tailored recommendations based on their preferences and viewing history.

2. Limited accessibility options:

Users with visual or hearing impairments may encounter difficulties if the app lacks accessibility features such as closed captions, audio descriptions, or text-to-speech capabilities.

3. Lack of social features:

Users might desire social interaction within the app, such as the ability to share trailers with friends, post comments or reviews, or participate in discussions.

4. Limited trailer selection:

Users may find it frustrating if the app offers a limited collection of movie trailers. They might desire a diverse range of trailers from different genres, languages, and release dates.

Takeaways

Impact:

"I like that its really fast to play what you want."

"It was easy to play the movie, and I also liked the option that you can download the trailer to watch it later. It's very useful in my case"

What I learned:

I’ve learned how to plan a user research and gather  important information to build and conduct a usability study. How to manipulate components on Figma and using many different plugins that help to fasten up the design process.
